eClinicalWorks Investment Plans for Technology, Security and Usability
eCW has announced aggressive investment as part of the company’s growth plans. Key pillars in their investment strategy include a fully immersive AI experience, enhanced EHR usability, and a next-generation UI. We’re seeing many of these items in the new features and functionalities offered in eCW V12.0.3, as well as in the planned updates to the software.

Sunoh.ai™ Ambient Listening in Procedural Settings
eClinicalWorks is fully integrated with Sunoh.ai™, a medical scribe which listens to patient-provider conversations and turns what it hears into clinical documentation. This ambient voice capture technology is now used in surgical settings like ambulatory surgery centers. It can create complete operative notes, such as for colonoscopies, without manual input.
Sunoh.ai™ Enhancements include:
- Embedded progress note editor
- Consent capture, multi-language support, and dictation mode
- KPI dashboards to track performance
- Sunoh.ai™ Fusion integrates directly into the progress note workflow for seamless documentation, and includes the ability to toggle between normal progress notes and Sunoh.ai™
Next-Gen User Interface: From Screens to Wearables
The evolution from PC to iPad to smart wearables has begun, and eClinicalWorks is joining in with the introduction of smart glasses integration via Healow Teddy. Providers can:
- Receive voice summaries of the day
- Use voice commands to manage tasks, reassign team duties, or respond to messages
- Adjust appointments and schedules, all hands-free
Enhanced Clinical Functionality in V12.0.3
Version 12.0.3 brings a host of new features aimed at simplifying workflows, especially for specialists:
- Flat panel progress note UI with tabbed navigation for HPI, Exam, Orders, and Superbill
- Dynamic Forms that can be customized per clinic needs
- Prisma Data Filtering by specialty
- Document summarization tools for faster insights
360x Closed-Loop Referrals
Properly managing referrals is a key factor in your healthcare organization’s ability to submit successful claims. With that in mind, eClinicalWorks has introduced new enhancements to referrals, which now show:
- Status updates (accepted, declined, no-show, scheduled)
- Receipt of consult notes to make tracking patient follow-through more transparent and actionable.
API Integration
eClinicalWorks has enhanced functionality to read and write to third-party applications via the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources API (FHIR). FHIR facilitates the standardized exchange of EHR data between different healthcare industry applications. The benefits include:

- Enhanced interoperability, by creating a common standard.

A new pharmacy module, which is 240B compliant, empowers pharmacists to manage dispensing more efficiently, with direct EHR integration. This includes:

There is even in-patient and outpatient behavioral health functionality to care for substance abuse, including detox and residential programs.

- 32-language questionnaire support
Healow Now
- Virtual urgent care queue system that enables:
- Online check-in and co-pay

Patient Engagement Enhancements
Engaging patients and empowering them to actively participate in their healthcare is critical in helping to ensure positive outcomes for your patient populations. To support this, eClinicalWorks has announced the following features:
- Geofencing, with capabilities to anticipate how far away you are before the “I have arrived” button activates
- Patient ability to indicate race and ethnicity
- Auto-import for successful insurance eligibility
- Alerts for the Healow consent form, with settings to indicate how often to update
- Healow Connect access via the registry screen, with ability to apply filters to select a patient and send a secure text, accessible via the portal or the Healow app.
- Patient notification of sliding fee schedule changes, via email or text, prior to appointment.
- Payment failure notifications via text, email, portal message
- Custom URL and logo per facility
Analytics Central: Actionable Intelligence
Analytics Central now offers deeper visibility into renewals, documents, lab results, and billing all summarized at a glance. Combined with AI-driven document parsing, this reduces time spent reviewing and increases time spent treating.
